Ferrari 166 MM Barchetta

The Ferrari 166 FL was a single-seat open-wheel race car, designed, developed and built by Italian manufacturer and team, Scuderia Ferrari, 1949 to 1952. Only three cars were produced. The designation 166 refers to the (rounded) displacement of a single cylinder, which corresponded to the nomenclature of the company at the time.

Motor Trend Classic named the 166 MM Barchetta as number six in their list of the ten "Greatest Ferraris of all time". [9] Racing The Ferrari 166 S won Targa Florio with Clemente Biondetti and Igor Troubetzkoy in 1948. In 1949, Biondetti also won in the 166 SC with Benedetti as co-driver.

With its lightweight body, the 166 MM became Ferraris most potent sports car. It was based on the same chassis that Ferrari debuted years earlier, but featured an upgraded V12 engine, capable of 140 bhp. Combined with a durable chassis that had an independent front suspension, both factory and independent drivers raced these cars to many victories.

In 1953, a second version of Ferrari's venerable 166 Mille Miglia (MM) was produced and it was Ferrari's sports car of choice for racing clientele that would race in the 2-liter class. The new car used an upgraded engine with roller cam followers that was first innovated by Lampredi on the long block V12.

The spectacular Ferrari offered here is perhaps the Marzottos' most significant car of the twenty-some Ferraris that the brothers owned. Completed by the factory on 2 February 1950 and delivered to Umberto, chassis number 024 MB's first outing was in the Targa Florio, where a clutch problem unfortunately sidelined the car.
